They have redesigned the XD. In every place it needed love, which was not much, they have given it love. I will have one.

Well, we gave Memphis a good scare anyway. All in all, nothing to be ashamed of.

That was my 15 seconds of fame, I guess.

I got interviewed by Rick Whitlow in the parking lot of Target on Tuesday night and he asked me for my prediction on the State/Ole Miss game. I said 17 to 14, State. I thought he might put it on the news that night, but instead Channel 12 put it in their pre-game show today. I came out looking like a genius.

Which doesn’t happen very often. So this is me enjoying it while I can.

…for the ‘Marathon’ candy bar of my youth. I couldn’t find them anywhere. For 30 years.

And then serendipity bit me on the behind yesterday. I walked into the Fondren Beverage Emporium, and the Santa Claus Deadhead behind the counter revolutionized my world. I commented on the fact they had ‘Clark’ bars, and waxed nostalgic about the good old days when the Marathon still existed. He looked at me and said, “Oh, well, I’ve got some over there. They’re called the CurlyWurly now.”

My heart skipped a beat. Could it be true? I moved slowly to the indicated aisle, and reached for the CurlyWurly box. It was true! The same flat length of ropey, tooth-pulling, caramel smothered in milk chocolate goodness! My first one in 30 years! Was it ridiculously priced? Oh yeah. Did I care? Not even a little. Some things in life you simply cannot put a price tag on.

He smiled when I left. He knows I’ll be back.

P.S. They also have Jolt! Cola. In multiple flavors.
